Creating a Generic Lab or Imaging Order
We’ve added support for generic lab and radiology orders, which allow you to place a requisition without tying it to a specific facility. This is useful when you want to provide the requisition directly to the patient, either electronically or in person, and allow them to complete the test at a location of their choice.
When to use a generic order
Use a generic order when the patient does not yet know which lab or imaging facility they plan to use, or when you want to give them flexibility in where the order is completed.
How to place a generic lab or imaging order
Start the order as you normally would by selecting Order Labs or Order Imaging from the patient chart.
On the vendor selection step, type “generic” into the search field. You will see an option for Generic Lab – All Locations or Generic Radiology – All Locations. Select the appropriate option and continue.

Complete the order as usual. On the final step, you will be given options for how the requisition is delivered. You may provide the requisition directly to the patient as a PDF, or you may manually fax the requisition by entering a fax number for a service provider that is not yet added as a vendor

You will be required to acknowledge the delivery method before submitting the order.

Submit the order once the acknowledgment is checked.
What happens after submission
The order is saved in the Orders section as usual. A PDF requisition is generated automatically and is immediately saved to the patient chart as a document. This PDF can be shared with the patient electronically, provided in person, or faxed to a manually entered service provider, depending on your workflow.
Additional notes
Generic orders are intentionally not tied to a specific facility. Other than selecting the generic vendor and acknowledging patient delivery, the workflow is the same as placing a standard lab or imaging order.
