Patient Onboarding Overview: Akute & Hint

Some clinics use both Akute and the Hint integration for day-to-day operations, while others use Akute alone. This article outlines what patients can expect when getting started.

Platform Overview

Akute

Akute is the electronic medical record system that manages patient health information. It includes a secure portal where patients can:

  • View visit notes and lab results
  • Review upcoming and past appointments
  • Send and receive secure messages
  • Share and download documents
  • Self-schedule appointments (if enabled by the clinic)

Hint Integration (if applicable)

Some clinics also use Hint for membership and billing. Patients complete and sign membership forms and manage payment information in Hint.

Not all clinics use the Hint integration. If your practice does not, patients can proceed to step 2.

Step 1: Hint Sign-Up

Patients should click the Hint signup link provided by your clinic to sign up for the practice.

When signing up, they’ll be prompted to:

  1. Enter your contact information.
  2. Provide your address and demographics.
  3. Add your payment method.

Step 2: Akute Patient Portal Invitation

Patients will receive an email invitation from Akute to create their portal account. They’ll sign up using their date of birth and a unique, one-time activation code.

These invitations are sent when your clinic bulk-invites patients.

Learn more here: How to Invite Patients to the Portal

Once enrolled, patients can access the portal through a desktop browser at https://portal.akutehealth.com/login or the mobile app (available for iOS and Android).

Step 3: Using the Akute Portal

After signing in, patients can:

  • View visit notes, lab results, and vitals
  • Schedule and manage appointments
  • Message their provider securely
  • Share and receive documents

If self-scheduling is enabled, patients can also use the scheduling link directly from the portal.
