Migrating EMR data to Akute

The process of migrating data from your previous EMR to Akute can be daunting. We are here to help with every step and have several processes to automate the bulk of the work for you.

Patient List:

  • Your current EMR can export your entire patient list to a csv file. This file will include the demographics of your patients (name, dob, address, sex, contact info, etc.)
    • Some EMRs allow you to do this yourself while others require you contact your account rep to do this export for you.
  • We will provide you a cloud storage folder to upload this file to.
  • Once uploaded, we will convert that patient list into charts in Akute.
    • Thus, all your patient charts will be automatically created with existing demographic data.

Clinical Data:

  • Most EMRs can export your patients' clinical data in an XML format called CCD files. These files will often be sorted into folders per patient with other relevant files in those patient folders.
    • EMRs that cannot do this export will usually provide PDF printouts of each chart in a similar structure of 1 folder per patient.
    • This will often be zipped into one file for you by the EMR.
  • We will provide you a cloud storage folder to upload this zipped file to.
  • Once uploaded, we will upload the files to each patient's chart.
    • This could include PDFs of reports, forms, & faxes.
    • In addition, this will include the CCD file. These CCD files include all of the clinical data for a patient from the previous EMR.
    • Healthcare data is not universally interoperable, unfortunately. So while we are not able to parse the data natively into Akute, we do display this clinical data in each chart for you in a separate tab (see GIF below)

I hope this helps clear up the basics of how EMR data migration works with Akute and how we can help automate the vast majority of the process for you, reducing the overall burden on you and your staff during a transition.
