Referral tracking

One of the most valuable features of Akute's referral management system is referral tracking. In this article, we'll be going over how to use referral tracking to increase your practice's efficiency and increase patient care.

Saving referrals in progress

One of the key features of our referral management system is that it allows you to save referrals in progress. This means that if you start a referral but don't have all the information you need to complete it - or just run out of time - you can save it and come back to it later. You don't have to worry about losing any information or starting over from scratch.

In the GIF below, you can see what happens when a referral is started and then exited. When you click "Start Referral" for that patient again, you'll have the option to continue editing the previous referral or start a new referral from scratch.

How to access referral drafts

To access referral drafts for a patient, navigate to Patient --> Referrals once in that patient's chart. Depending on the referral status, you'll be able to edit, delete, and/or duplicate the referral.

Creating a task to track referral status

When you send a referral, it can be difficult to keep track of its status. Now, when patient goes to a specialist, you can create a task directly in Akute to track if a patient successfully made an appointment, as well as if you've received notes back from the referral appointment.

To do this, check the "Create Task to track" button and fill in the required information. Please note that you'll have to either print or fax the referral for the task to get created.

Viewing your new referral tasks

The task you create will be directly related to a referral, so you'll be able to see all relevant information in one place. In the GIF below, you can see how to access a task from task inbox, and that you can click directly into the patient's chart.

If you click on "Attachment" in the task, you can go straight to a Referral Details page. Here, you can change the status, add internal notes, or @ mention colleagues in an internal comment.

"Created By" column

If you're working with a team, it can be useful to know who's responsible for each referral. To do this, you can look at the "Created By" column in the Referrals tab of the patient chart.

We hope this article has given you a good overview of referral tracking within our referral management system. If you have any questions, please reach out to support@akutehealth.com.
