Opt-in policy

Phone carriers have gotten increasingly strict about consent policies and have begun requiring extra registration steps before approving each number in their system. In short, they need to see where the end-user (in your case, the patient) consents to receiving non-secure SMS messages.

Ultimately the specific opt-in language is the responsibility of each individual practice to create, and falls outside of Akute's domain, but this is an article that discusses opt-in language in case it's helpful!

Please send the following to Akute so we can submit carrier registration on your behalf with the best chance of approval:

  • A screenshot of the section of your opt-in policy that discusses patients receiving non-secure SMS messages
  • A screenshot of the section where patients sign to acknowledge your opt-in policy
  • The link(s) to your terms of service/privacy policy that cover your opt-in policy

Important note: please send us screenshots from your actual consent forms and/or hosted policies. We've had practices send us a screenshot of their opt-in policy in a text editor (instead of on their website/forms) and carriers will almost always reject this.

If carriers reject your registration, we will work with them to learn the reasoning behind the rejection so we can re-submit your registration. Each registration process takes ~2-3 weeks, however, so we'd like to get your practice approved the first time!
