Template Best Practices

Templates can be a powerful tool to quickly and efficiently write notes for patient encounters. Here are some tips to best take advantage of all the tools available within notes & templates to best maximize your time:

  1. Use /cmds & :macros in your templates
    1. Thus, when starting a new note with that template, all the auto-complete methods are already there. All you have to do is click on them to expand and pull in the data.
  2. Share templates with your team members so you all can benefit from the same template and not duplicate work
  3. Make the appropriate sections available for patients to view in their patient portal. This can be changed when writing the note, however, setting these defaults in the template make it easy for your team to easily share plans with your patients without needing to remember to send a plan after each visit.
  4. Add as many sections as you need. If you want a separate section for HPI and a separate section for Assessment & Plan, then keep adding more sections into the template.
  5. Open a 3 column view when writing a note to allow you to view/update the chart while writing the note!

Hopefully these tips help you to supercharge your note writing experience. Please reach out if you have any questions or feedback!
